2024 Meetings

The 2024 Annual Conference will take place on 25-27th June in Ulster University, Belfast.

Key dates:

  • 28th March: Deadline 250-300 words abstract submission
  • 18th April: Notification of acceptance
  • 31st May: Deadline full paper (discussion session) / extended abstract (standard session) submission

Presentation details:

Submissions were welcome on economic and social research in the fields of, among others, agriculture, food, the environment, the bioeconomy and rural development.

Submissions are possible in one of the two categories:

  • Standard session: submit a 250-300 words abstract, an extended abstract (1000 words), and present for 20 min. Please use the provided template for extended abstracts.
  • Discussion session: submit a 250-300 words abstract, a paper up to 6500 words (excluding references), and present for 20 min. Papers will be assigned a discussant; this will mean someone will give more detailed feedback on your paper after the presentation. *When submitting in this session, you may be requested to be somebody else’s discussant.

Submissions to be made by email to secretary.aesi@gmail.com. Please include the title, authors, affiliations and funding acknowledgments, and specify to which session you are submitting.

University accommodation:

The university accommodation services are kindly offering a discount to stay at Dalriada Student Village for a rate of £60+vat (i.e. £72) per person per night. Dalriada Student Village is located 7 miles outside Belfast at Jordanstown. While the society will not be providing transport, public transport is available.

Please click on the following link to book accommodation there: Agriculture Economic Society Ireland Accommodation Booking Form. After filling the form, the UU Residential Services will make contact with you directly to take payment and confirm the booking.

This will provide a single ensuite bedroom in a 5 bedroom apartment sharing a kitchen with living and dining area.  The rate is inclusive of bed linen, towels, self-catering equipment and unlimited internet connection.  Laundry facilities are available onsite at a cost of £2.90 per wash and £1.90 per dry.

There are local shops, restaurants and a pub just a 15-minute walk into Whiteabbey village.  The campus is close by airports and ferry terminals; Belfast International 30 minutes (25 miles), City Airport 20 minutes (10 miles), from the ferry terminals – Belfast 20 minutes (7 miles), Larne 30 minutes (25 miles).

Rooms are available for check in from 2pm, or earlier by prior arrangement. Rooms MUST be vacated by 11am on the day of departure, however a later check-out time may be arranged in advance with Residential Services.

Registration for the conference will be organised via Eventbrite and will open soon. Please note that it is not necessary to join the Society before registering for the conference – the conference fee will include AESI membership.
